How to Apply Student Pass in Singapore
For International students studying in Singapore
1. Eligibility
Ensure your private institution in Singapore is accredited with EduTrust. From 21 Dec 2009, all Private Education Organisation (PEOs) will need to be awarded with EduTrust to offer school placement for foreign students. This is also to protect the welfare of international students.
2. Submitting through the SOLAR+ System
Submitting through the Student’s Pass Online Application & Registration+ (SOLAR+) system
New applicants are to submit the required information at least 2 months and not more than 6 months from the commencement date of the course.
Applicants are advised to apply for the Student’s Pass before arriving in Singapore as extension of stay will not be granted should the application takes longer then your required stay in Singapore. Students can enter Singapore after the applications have been approved to complete the necessary formalities.
PRC nationals
PRC nationals above 19 years of age will be routed to the Singapore Embassy of Beijing for an interview first prior to the ICA assessment if they are intending to take up a full-time course at an approved PEOs that is conferred the 4 years EduTrust Star/ Edutrust status.
3. Processing time
3.1 For new application
Processing time for a new application takes around 2-4 weeks upon the receipt of a completed application by ICA. Processing time where interviews are required may take up to 4 months. Enquiry on the outcome of the interview will not be entertained.
3.2 Renewal of Student Pass
For renewal applications, application needs to be conducted on the SOLAR+ system 2 weeks before the expiry of the existing Student Pass. Processing time will take approximately 5 days
3.3 Transfer of Schools/ Courses of Study
Applicants need to submit an application for the transfer of school/ course of study at least 4 weeks before the course begins, if they are intending to transfer to a different PEO or take up a new vocation.
4. Security deposit
When the application for a Student’s Pass is approved, an In-Principle Approval (IPA) letter will be issued for the applicant to complete the formalities and collect the Student Pass at ICA. The security deposit may/ may not be required, depending on the institution you are studying, age, country, etc.
This is a refundable deposit.
5. Completion of formalities
Applicants issued with the IPA form will complete the necessary formalities at the ICA building in Singapore. This is only by appointment basis.
6. Fees
The processing fee of S$30 and Issuance fee of S$60 will be chargeable upon successful application and completion of formality at the Issuance of the Student’s Pass at ICA.
7. Change of local address
The student needs to report any changes in his/her address in Singapore within 14 days of such change.
